I worked for months, working 12- hour days sanding floors and tearing down wallpaper with one child strapped on my back, and others playing inside the playpen. Ha! We were getting closer to finishing, but it was still a long way off. The project would require an enormous amount of effort as well as my favourite brands of furniture interiors to decorate this place. My three sons and I searched for hidden gems while at estate sales to keep my spending under control. Every week, we spent Thursday to Saturday at garage sales and estate sales purchasing old and brand new furniture. Then I stenciled and polished in the driveway in the week. I rented a booth at the local market and sold pieces there. Then, my collection got enough that the area I had was no longer adequate. There were open houses in my home which saw over 1 000 guests would come through in one weekend, and purchase whatever they saw on the ground floor. Growing Days is the result of this. Apart from my successful company, I also started our family. Being a new mom I was able to strike the right way to be able to begin my own business as well as being a decent mother. Growing Days was the obvious choice. Nora joined us in 2013 and became our fourth baby. While I was pleased with the direction that my business was taking, I realized that I was in need of a little break. I decided to put off doing work on my furniture and stay home with the children. It was what I wanted. However, after just a couple of minutes the phone started getting busy. A lot of people contacted me seeking advice regarding home improvements and decor. They were mostly people who visited my residence to buy furniture. I began taking on clients one at a time taking my time but it didn't take for long to have multiple accounts and was running a complete home renovation business. Most likely, I would have been laughing if I had been told that the company was to become the premise of an upcoming tv program in the DIY Network. If I think at it, it has made me smile.
